18th state archival exhibition

The State’s Department of Art & Culture has set up Archives Corner at Bamboo Pavilion, Kisama as part of the Hornbill Festival of Nagaland.  

This is the 18th state archival exhibition set up with an objective to create awareness of archival treasures and to stress on the role of archival institutions in restructuring future development.  

One can visit this Archives Corner during the festival, which will continue till December 10.  

Among the many archival materials put up for display include; the 3rd Naga People’s Convention 1959, Administrative Report of the Naga Hills: 1909-10, The fate of the Naga people: An appeal to the world by AZ Phizo, president NNC 1966, Records of Kohima Battle: 2nd World War: 1943-47, Missionaries to the Nagas: 1873 etc etc.  

Nagaland state archives is a branch under the Department of Art and Culture. Its main objective is collection and preservation of the state’s historical records.  

Since the humble beginning with a view to preserve the records, the archives branch has collected more than 20,000 records, consisting of official documents, rare books, microfilms, maps, photographs, private papers, newspaper clippings etc.  

The records are collected from within and outside the state.  

The state archives assist and renders its services to research scholars, historians, administrators, students, individuals and agencies who intend to see historical documents of the Naga people.
