MON, JULY 13 (MExN): A total of 19 schools in Mon district have been declared tobacco-free.

The announcement was made during the District Level Coordination Committee (DLCC) meeting held at the DC's conference hall in Mon town. Of the 19 schools, nine are from Tizit, three from Mon village, and seven from Aboi subdivision.

Deputy Commissioner Mon, Wennyei Konyak, NCS, who chaired the meeting, congratulated the schools for achieving tobacco-free status and urged school authorities to continue efforts to protect students from the harmful effects of tobacco.

The DC also assured that more enforcement drives will be carried out in the subdivisions of Aboi and Tizit.

District Nodal Officer, NTCP, Dr Esther Chophy Ngullie, gave a PowerPoint presentation on the activities of the district tobacco control team and appealed to NGOs and school authorities to support efforts to safeguard children from tobacco use.

The meeting was attended by SDO (C) Ajit Kumar, CMO Dr Supongmenla Walling, Wangkhao Government College Principal Dr Tialila, SDPO Bendang Wati, DTO Dr Ngopelo, EACs Mhao Humtsoe and Omajen Ozukum, members of MCCI, school authorities, teachers, and DEO office staff, officials added.
