A total number of 1.97 lakh persons have been identified as farmers in the state by the Department of Agriculture as of January 2020. Out of this, only 34226 farmers are Kisan Credit Card (KCC) holders through which they can avail loans.

These figures were provided by the Department of Agriculture, Dimapur during a joint press conference addressed by Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur and NABARD at DC’s conference hall on Friday.

All the 1.97 lakh farmers have been benefitted through the Prime Minister’s Kisan Samman Nidhi under which each farmer gets Rs 6000 annually in three instalments of Rs 2000 each every four months.

In Dimapur, the total number of registered farmers stand at 16, 329 out of which 14183 of them have been benefitted.

Earlier, briefing media persons, DC Dimapur, Anoop Khinchi highlighted about the benefits of Kisan Credit Card. He said KCC loan limit is based on the crops cultivated. He said the farmers can avail loan from the banks by simply filling up one-page form and submit their land record documents and details of the crop sown. “Once you get the KCC and apply for loan with requisite documents, the banks will have to sanction your loan within 14 days,” the DC said. The farmers can also apply for loan through banks’ websites.

Assistant General Manager, NABARD, Dimapur, H.C. Biswas said that the KCC is a scheme to provide short-term credit to farmers with 12 months repayment period. He said loans are provided to farmers at an interest rate of 7%. However, if the farmer repays loan on time, then the government provides them a rebate of 3% which reflects that a farmer could avail loan at 4 %. Under the KCC scheme, the farmers can also avail crop insurance. Biswas informed that fish farmers can also avail loan with the KCC. He urged all the farmers in the state to get KCC card to avail the benefits of the scheme.
