The Niuland Tokukujo Kukami Kughakulu (Niuland Area Gaon Buras’ Association) has urged Chief Minister of Nagaland to sanction a new RCC bridge at Atu Ghoki during the financial year 2026-27.
Niuland GBs urge CM for immediate replacement
Niuland, May 25 (MExN): Expressing serious concern over the deteriorating condition of a key bridge in Niuland district, the Niuland Tokukujo Kukami Kughakulu (Niuland Area Gaon Buras’ Association) has urged Chief Minister of Nagaland to sanction a new RCC bridge at Atu Ghoki during the financial year 2026-27.
In an appeal addressed to the Chief Minister, the association described the existing RCC bridge, constructed way back in 1991, as being “near the end of its utilization period.” At present, only one vehicle is allowed to cross the bridge at a time due to its structural weakness, they stated.
The bridge serves as the only lifeline connection between Niuland district and key destinations including Dimapur, Chümoukedima, Wokha, Kohima districts, as well as the neighbouring state of Assam, the association informed.
Thousands of people, including daily commuters, school and college students, depend on this bridge for their everyday travel. The GBs cautioned that any untoward incident could occur due to the lack of a proper and strong bridge.
“Before any untoward incidents arise, we request you to take earliest initiative for the construction of a new RCC bridge for the citizens of Niuland District and the commuters plying the bridge on a daily basis,” the appeal stated.
The association described the proposed project as a “much needed facility” that would go a long way in serving the district.
The appeal was signed by the association’s chairman, V Katoho Holo, and secretary, Shikavi Zhimo. They requested the Chief Minister to treat the matter as genuine and urgent, and approve the construction of a new RCC bridge at Atu Ghoki during the 2026-27 financial year.
