19th archival exhibition underway at Kisama

Citizens Voice- the first English weekly in Nagaland (1967) is on display at the ongoing 19th state archival exhibition as part of Hornbill festival at World War II Museum premises, Kisama.  

The newspaper at that point of time priced 0.25 paise. Rare photos of 1964 were also on display.  

Among the many archival materials put up for display include Abduction by a party of Nagas of three coolies in one of the Assam Company’s Garden at Sibsagar- 1869, The Future administration of the Angami Naga Hills- 1866, Annual administration Report of the Naga Hills- 1871, Administration of the Naga Hills- 1871, Annual Administrative Report of the Naga Hills district- 1901, Nine Points Agreement- 1947, 16 Points Agreement- 1970, The fate of the Naga people, an appeal to the world 1966, An appeal from a freedom fighter based on facts of historical background of Naga independence struggle 1969, Records of Kohima Battle: 2nd World War: 1943-47, Missionaries to the Nagas: 1873, application of the Assam Tea company for further mineral right in respect of two coal tracks leased to them by the Nagas etc.  

This is the 19th state archival exhibition-cum- sale of departmental publication set up with an objective to create awareness of archival treasures and to stress on the role of archival institutions in restructuring future development. One can visit this Archives corner between 10:30- 4:00 pm daily till December 10.  

Nagaland state archives are a branch under the Department of Art and Culture. Its main objective is collection and preservation of the state’s historical records.  

Since the humble beginning with a view to preserve the records, the archives branch has collected more than 20,000 records, consisting of official documents, rare books, microfilms, maps, photographs, private papers, newspaper clippings etc.  

The records are collected from within and outside the state.  

The state archives assist and renders its services to research scholars, historians, administrators, students, individuals and agencies who intend to see historical documents of the Naga people.
