Dimapur, September 26 (DIPR): The 19th Edition of Loyem Memorial Senior Soccer Open Championship 2011 got underway at Tuensang, organised by confederation of Chang Students Union (CCSU) under the theme “Sports not Drugs”. The inaugural function was graced by Parliamentary Secretary IPR, Economic & Statistics Nagaland, R. Tohanba as the chief guest.
In his inaugural speech, the chief guest appreciated the CCSU for organising and conducting the tournament in the District, which provide a good platform for the young and up coming sports person in the District. He further called upon the participating players to create a friendly atmosphere among the teams and players through the tournament. He also encouraged and challenged the sports person of different discipline to reach the standard to National and International level, taking the example and following the footstep of Dr. T. Ao the legendary Indian Football player who hails from Nagaland. He wished CCSU tournament all the Best and the Chief Guest declared the Tournament opened. Earlier the programme started with invocation by Pastor SBL Tuensang, Rev. Yanger while welcome address was delivered by President CCSU, Y. Hongkin and special appearance item was presented by the Village Gang.
According to organizers the tournament final will be played on October 15, 2011 and the winner will walk away with cash prize of Rs.80,000/- and runners-up will be awarded Rs 60,000/- respectively. Altogether eleven teams are participating in the championship. In the inaugural match the Defending Champions Hongkong Sporting Club Bhumpak Noksen played against Head Hunters 164 (Naga) Territorial Army where the match ended in a goalless (0-0) draw. A capacity crowd of football lovers of Tuensang attended the programme.
