1st All Nagaland Badminton Championship underway

  Our Correspondent Kohima | April 20   The 1st All Nagaland Men’s Doubles Open and Veteran Badminton Championship organized by Crescent Club Kohima under the aegis of Nagaland Badminton Association got underway here today at Indoor Badminton Stadium, Officers’ Hill. Altogether, 52 teams across the state registered for the three day long championship which will culminate on April 22.   Talking to media persons, Crescent Club Kohima president M. Tungoe said that the club intends to make the championship an annual affair.   The champion in open category will win a cash prize of Rs. 40,000 while the runners up will receive Rs. 20,000. Semi-finalists will also get Rs. 10,000 each.   Further, the winners and runners-up in the under 30/40 and 50 plus categories will carry Rs. 20,000 and Rs. 10,000 each. The prize money in this championship is the highest of its kind in the state.   Vilelie Khamo is the chief patron of this championship. The prize sponsors include Victor, NVBDCP, G.A.V Sports and individual patrons. YONEX is also part of one of the sponsors of this championship.
