A two day long 1st inter-departmental badminton tournament got underway here today at Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) Multi-Purpose Hall under the aegis of Inter-Department Badminton Club Kohima.
The tournament was formally declared open by Nagaland’s Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs minister Neiba Kronu.
Speaking on the occasion, Kronu said that badminton is gaining popularity in the state. He expressed happiness over a good turn-out of the participants and hoped that they will play with the best of ability.
55 teams from 22 departments registered for the tournament, which will conclude on October 23.
The tournament features Men’s Double, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Double.
Earlier, IDBC convenor Shanavas C delivered welcome address while introduction of the teams was made by T. Imtisungit Ao.
The opening ceremony was chaired by Kekhriesetuo Ziephru.
The inaugural match witnessed between the duo Neiba Kronu & Er. Venepra of planning department and Manen & Rehabo of school education department in Men’s Double.
Legislators Toyang Chang, Eshak Konyak, Yitachu and Y. Vikheho Swu also joined the tournament.
