The 1st Kohima District Junior Athletics Meet 2025 under the aegis of Kohima District Athletics Association (KDAA) took place today at D. Khel Ground, Seikhazou, Kohima village.
Gracing the inaugural function, Roko Angami, OSD (Sports), Youth Resources & Sports and treasurer Nagaland Football Association (NFA) said that sports is no more a time pass activity.
In this, he called upon the youngsters to take up sports with seriousness to excel both within and outside the state.
“Anything you undertake, do it seriously and give your 100% attention,” Roko told the participants, adding that unless one give 100% concentration, he/she cannot excel.
Once you enter the field, give your best and make sure that you achieve something, he said, adding “Don’t ever participate just for the sake of it.”
Play with confidence and dedication, he told the young athletes.
Roko said that sport is all about discipline and one cannot buy it from the market. “You have to discipline yourself,” he said.
In athletics, he said, it requires individual effort.
He described the 1st Kohima District Junior Athletics Meet 2025 as a gateway to more opportunities.
“From here, you will able to represent the state and the country subsequently,” he said.
If others can do it, there’s no reason why Nagas won’t be able to perform well, he said.
Roko, a former international footballer said “If someone like me can represent the state and the nation, you all have equally or even better prospects.”
He said that the state government has been promoting sports in every possible way and urged upon the youngsters to grab the various opportunities designed for them.
KDAA president Thepfungunyu Solo said that the 1st Kohima District Junior Athletics meet 2025 under 14 years and under 16 years showcased young talent and promotes athletics and sportsmanship in the district.
“We aim to identify and nurture budding athletes, providing opportunities at the State & National Level and also for the growth and development of the athletes,” Solo said.
He congratulated the athletes, coaches and officials for their dedication and hard work.
Earlier, Chubawala Pongener administered oath to the participants while Medolenuo Ambrocia Loucü compered the inaugural programme.
180 young athletes from Minister’s Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School Kohima, DBHSS Kohima, The Vineyard, Baptist Mission School Jotsoma, Dainty Buds School Kohima, St. Paul Phesama, Northfield Kohima, Dr. Neilhouzhii Kire GHSS Seikhazou, GHS Dihoma and Christ King HSS joined the meet.
