
Phek, Zunheboto enter football semifinals
Dimapur, December 14 (MExN): Phek and Zunheboto eased into the football semifinals of the 1st Nagaland Olympics being held in Dimapur.
Phek blanked Mon 4-0 while Zunheboto rolled past Kiphire 5-1 on Thursday at the NAPTC Ground in Chumukedima, Dimapur.
In the other quarterfinal matches, Peren edged past Kohima via tie-breaker 4-1 after both sides ended with two goals apiece at the end of regulation time.
Host Dimapur also needed a tie-breaker to beat Mokokchung after being locked in a 1-1 draw. The tie-breaker ended 3-2 in favour of the hosts.
The first football semifinal will be played between Dimapur and Zunheboto at 9:00 am on Friday which will be followed by Phek vs Peren.
In other events of the ongoing 1st Nagaland Olympics on December 14, Vilasier Khate and Zhaputso Khate representing Dimapur took Gold in Tennis Men’s Doubles. Metba Phom and his partner Vikhozolie representing Longleng had to be content with silver while Vitsizolie and Bantilo from Kohima claimed bronze.
As of Thursday, Kohima leads the medal table with 12 gold, 15 silver and 14 bronze; Dimapur also has 12 gold but only has 7 silver and 8 bronze. Phek follows closely with 11 gold, 9 silver and 11 bronze.
Kiphire and Mon are at the bottom of the table with the former having won 1 silver and 3 bronze while the latter has only claimed a silver so far.
