KOHIMA, FEBRUARY 10 (MExN): The first Presidential Trophy 2024 of the Northern Angami Youth & Sports Association (NAYSA-D) Group got underway today at Botsa Ground. NAYSA-D is an association of 12 Villages in the Northern Angami.

With an endeavour to provide platform for upcoming sports talents in the area, the Presidential Trophy is being organised as a year-long league tournament, a press release informed.

Advisor to Chief Minister and Chairman NKVIB, Dr Neiphrezo Keditsu who graced the inaugural programme exhorted the players not to take sports just as a hobby or recreational activity, but to dedicate oneself and take it seriously since games and sports have become highly competitive. He also highlighted on the immense potential that sports has for those who are interested in sports and games.

The 12 Villages are divided into two groups whereby one group consisting of 6 Villages will be competing on every second Saturday of the month. Men football & Women volleyball events are organised simultaneously.

The catch of the Trophy also lies in the ambitious goal of the organizer to organise the tournament in all the 12 villages under NAYSA-D as the match days of the trophy progresses.

The organizer espoused belief that the Trophy will promote more unity and exposure even among the member villages apart from providing platform for the sportspersons, the press release maintained.  The above system will also help each units to have a stint at fundraise as players and spectators from at least 6 villages will gather in one village each second week of the month.

The tournament also provides platform for young upcoming artiste to belt out songs during intervals of the matches.
