1st NE International Half Marathon held

  Guwahati, April 1 (MExN): Thousands of people participated in the 1st International Half Marathon which was held in Guwahati on April 1 in support of a ‘Clean India’.   Sponsored by Star Cement, the run was flagged off by Assam Chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal along with Bollywood star Bipasha Basu.   Elite runners from across India and also other countries participated in the run which was divided into three categories – viz., Half Marathon, 10km run, and 4km run.   A total of Rs. 69 lakh was given away as prize money.   Gosa Bogale Seyoum finished with 1:04:45 to claim first in the men’s International Elite 21 km run. He was followed by Elkanah Arusey with 1:05:09 and Gilbert Ngenoh who clocked 1:05:15.   Srinu Bugatha was two seconds behind Ngenoh clocking 1:05:17 to claim the first prize in the men’s Indian Elite 21 km category. Bugatha was followed by Durga Bahadur (1:05:33) and Kalidas Hirave (1:05:40).   In the women’s International Elite 21 km event, Gladys Ruto with 1:14:49 came first followed by Eileen Korir (1:15:51) and Susan Kiplagat (1:15:58).   Sudha Singh’s time of 1:15:11 – bettered only by Gladys Ruto – was enough to get her the first prize in the Indian Elite 21 km category. Singh was more than two minutes ahead of the next Indian female runners – Kiranjeet Kaur (1:17:21) and Saigeeta Naik (1:18:09).
