A two day long 1st Rapid Nagaland state open chess championship 2021 under the aegis of Nagaland Chess Association (NCA) got underway here today at NCA office Kohima.
Rajashekara N, IPS, DIG (Range/NAP), Tuensang, who is also honourary secretary of NCA declared the championship open.
NCA honorary secretary Mughaho Awomi said that the tournament is being held under the theme of “Drive safe” and “Do not checkmate your life.”
He said that the state’s transport department has collaborated with NAC as sponsorship for this tournament.
Pamphlets on road signs and road safety measures issued by Nagaland Road Safety Authority have been distributed and propagated at the tournament for safety and awareness. 42 participants from all over Nagaland in open category Under 14 and Under 18 registered for the tournament
Earlier, Vini Achumi compered the inaugural function.
The tournament will continue till October 23.
