Nagaland Governor PB Acharya today said that within the ambit of the over-all plan, the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) government will give the first priority to employment generation, human resource development and the infrastructure related programmes.  

“Our state is endowed with rich mineral resources, salubrious climate, rich bio-diversity and above all, a unique social capital” said Acharya in his address at the first session of the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) here today.  

He said to combine those resources to create an economically developed Naga society, there is a need for good infrastructure and skill development plans tailored to the market needs and technology that can energize the agriculture and allied sectors.  

“My government will, therefore, give priority to these sectors and explore avenues to attract investments from outside the state to undertake the projects,” he said adding that the government plans to set up Nagaland Investment and Development Authority to bring in investments.  

The government also plans to organize a business and investment summit to focus on strengths of the state.  

NFMP to be implemented in 185 villages

Governor Acharya said that the forest department is also implementing Nagaland Forest Management Project (NFMP) with funding from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) with an objective to improve forest ecosystem and support income generation by rehabilitation of jhum area and provision of livelihood support, thereby contributing to sustainable forest and environmental conservation and livelihood improvement.  

Acharya said that project will be implemented in 185 villages across the 11 districts of Nagaland over a period of 10 years.  

The project is expected to aid forestry interventions and biodiversity conservation, livelihood improvement and community development and institutional strengthening leading to augmentation of farmer incomes and environmental conservation.  

Govt to promote home stays, rural tourism

Viewing that Nagaland has the potential to be an attractive tourist destination, Governor Acharya stated that Nagaland offers a unique blend of culture and heritage to travelers in search of nature, music and cultural tourism. Along with eco-tourism, it also has a great opportunity for adventure tourism, he added.  

“My Government will promote home stays and rural tourism that will offer an experience to tourists, which is unparalleled.”
