One of the victims was from Nagaland and the other from Manipur.
As stated by Naga students in Delhi, the assault occurred around 2:00-3:00am on Sunday. “They were returning to their residence in Safdarjung from their workplace when they were attacked by a group of local youths,” informed a Naga student leader in Delhi.

As per the account of the incident, the attackers, numbering around 6 people, and a few others were reportedly inebriated and quarreling among themselves when the victims were crossing the place heading home. For reasons unknown, the quarreling youths, who were said to be college students, went after the victims and started assaulting them. After the assault, one of the victims, managed to call a cousin, who took them to hospital and a police complaint was also lodged at Safdarjung Police Station.
