20 villages + 1 kutcha road = Govt’s help needed

Dimapur, June 5 (MExN): The Government of Nagaland has approved for construction and resurfacing of the existing untreated road connecting Mekokla Village and Lotsü Village via Sanis Town, all under Wokha District through various developmental schemes. The schemes are under the provisions of negotiable loans.

Another scheme for construction of the road connecting Sanis town and Changki village under Mokokchung district is sacnctioned, it was informed. This road connects more than twenty villages along Wokha’s lower range and is the lifeline of the said villages. The road has not seen any further improvisation since the time it was constructed in the early years of the state. In this regard the people of the adjoining areas had been expressing the need for improvisation of the present one and demanding the same from the previous governments.

According to the Lotha Middle Range Students Union (LMRSU), all that changed as the present Nagaland Government under Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio took cognizance of the need of the areas’ people and provided for development towards that effect. “On the flipside, it is disheartening to see that the already-provided schemes for development of the road has not materialized as yet and is being delayed for reasons best known to the concern authorities and the government of Nagaland” Orenvungo Odyuo, General Secretary of the LMRSU stated.

The students’ union, while acknowledging the provisions being made, urged the government of Nagaland to expedite the process to realize the developmental schemes being sanctioned as the “pathetic reality,” according to the union, of the people of this range in socio-economic development is deteriorating from bad to worse. The union also assured of its support and cooperation for the development of the said road and also for any developmental activities in future as well. The services and contributions of MLAs from Wokha district and “high dignitaries”, towards the welfare of the people of the lower Lotha range was also appreciated by the students’ organization.
