The Nagaland State Government has already acquired and earmarked about 200 acres of prime land for setting up an Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER) in Sukhovi village in Chümoukedima district.

This was informed by the Nagaland Governor, La. Ganesan during his address in the NLA on March 21. He informed that the earmarked land at just about half an hour from the nearest airport and located on the National Highway, and in the vicinity of Sukhovi Railway Station, is very well connected.

The establishment of and IISER in Nagaland was announced in the Union Budget of 2015- 16, but unfortunately because of various reasons couldn't be taken forward, the Governor said.

An IISER in Nagaland could give the state a national institute of importance and prove to be an immense help in promoting science and maths education and research in the entire region, the Governor noted.
