2019 Sekrenyi Mini Hornbill will take place from February 25 to 27. This festival, jointly organised by Angami Public Organization (APO) and Government of Nagaland with the theme “Purifying Confluence” is a reaffirmation to the quest and commitment of the Angami people to overcome the past flaws and misdeeds through the sanctification of the mind and soul and to surge ahead striving for a better society- bridging the confluence of a glorious past and a prospective future.
Sekrenyi, also known as ‘Phousanyi’ is the premier festival of the Angami Nagas, celebrated annually. Sekrenyi is a festival of purification and sanctification of the body, mind and soul. Ritual are performed to cleanse off the past wrongs and sins; to renew and purify the body and soul of oneself, kinsmen, village and the community as a whole, ushering in greater aspiration and purpose in life.
The festival also marks the initiation of the young into adulthood and therefore, the festival is considered to be the identity hallmark of the Angamis.
The festival will take place at Kohima Local Ground on February 25 and 26 and February 27 at Tuophema village.
Ao Senden president Chubawati Longchar, Angami Gazetted Officers Krotho president Dr. Kedo Punyü and rural development advisor Dr. Neikiesalie (Nicky) Kire will be the special guests for day 1, 2 and 3 respectively.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio will be the chief host. The inaugural function on February 25 will start from 11:00 AM onwards at Khuochiezie, Kohima Local Ground. The three day long Mini Hornbill will be marked by indigenous games competition, folk songs and exhibition stalls.
