The Nepali community in Kohima under the aegis of Gorkha Sahitya Kala Sanstha Kohima (GSKSK) today celebrated 208th Birth Anniversary of Adikavi Bhanu Bhakta Acharya at Gorkha Public Panchayat Kohima Hall.
Gorkha Public Panchayat Kohima (GPPK) President, Santu Thapa called upon the gathering to promise to take Nepali language forward, make it richer and also preserve the rich culture. He also wished that the occasion brings peace, prosperity, progress and strengthen the bond of relationship among the Nepali speaking community.
GSKSK Literary Secretary, Sankar Rai shared the brief life sketch of poet Bhanu Bhakta Acharya, a Nepali writer, poet, and translator, widely regarded as the first writer in the Nepali language. Acharya was the one who translated the great epic Ramayana from Sanskrit to Nepali for the first time.
The occasion was marked with felicitation of Gold Medallist for Excellence in Mechanical Engineer Kapil Thapa and the Art and Poem competitions conducted by GSKSK and 10-day long hands on training on Computer and Library for children by GPPK.
Cultural songs and dances and poem recitations by various clubs and organizations enthralled the gathering. Chaired by GSKSK General Secretary, Binod Mothey, the programme commenced with garlanding of the sculpture of Adikavi Bhanu Acharya by the heads of the Gorkha NGOs in Kohima while GSKSK President, CK Lama delivered welcome address. Vote of thanks was proposed by GSKSK, Vice President, Ganga Thapa.
