The 20th Sports Meet 2017organized by All Nagaland Private Schools’ Association (ANPSA) kicked off at Greenwood Higher Secondary School, Kuda village, on Wednesday with ‘Exploring talents through sports’ as the theme of the sports meet.
General superintendent of The Assembly of God of East India, Rev Moses Murry, who graced the opening ceremony as the chief guest in his address said sports is unique in the sense that in the realm of games and sports there is no discrimination on grounds or religion or race but unites all people, whether friends or foes, and foster understanding, harmony and brotherhood.
Rev. Murry said with the world is changing very fast in every sphere of human activities including games and sports, students also need to keep up with the pace and standards accordingly.
Exhorting the young players to exhibit true sportsmanship, he urged the players to keep emotions in check and refrain from using derogatory words both in the field and outside and not be discouraged by results.
He also stressed on the need for players to maintain not only physical fitness but also mental and spiritual wellness. Encouraging the students to take part in extracurricular activities, Murry said sports helps a person to inculcate patience, team spirit and discipline.
Earlier, ANPSA president Andrew Ahoto in his speech said the association is a big family and the students should have brotherly and sisterly love among each other not only during the duration of the games but also outside in their daily lives.
