Defending champion Centurion FC Kohima village today retained the title in the 20th NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy 2019 here at Kohima Local Ground.


Centurion FC blanked Viswemi FC 2-0 in final match to emerge the champion title.


Vekhriito Resii opened the account for Centurion FC in the 4th minute and the team took 1-0 lead till the first half.
Yhunshalo Kemp connected the second goal for Centurion FC in the 81st minute.


With this, Centurion FC pocketed a cash prize of Rs. 2 lakh along with trophy and citation, which was handed over by Kohima deputy commissioner Thejawelie Gregory Sote.


Runner-up Viswemi FC was awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 1.20 lakh.


Earlier, gracing the valedictory function, K.G. Kenye, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) recalled the 20th March 1986 incident and said that the NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy has been significant to bring our people together, increasing more participants each year, appalling more crowd which points towards the essence of its theme, to strive for a "goal for peace."


With the theme “ Goal for peace,” the tournament is organized annually in respect and honour of two martyrs’ Late Kekuojalie Sachii of Kohima village and Late Vikhozo Yhoshii of Kigwema Village who were the victims in the indiscriminate firing of the Nagaland Armed Police from Alichen on 20th March, 1986 during a peaceful rally called by Naga Students’ Federation to protest against the State Government’s decision on the Extension of Disturbed Area Belt from 5 KM – 20 KM along the Indo-Myanmar border and against the induction of Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre into the state of Nagaland.


Kenye also said that the Naga society is in another threshold with the ongoing political talks and emphasized that one need to uphold the spirit of oneness and learn to live together.


37 teams joined this long tournament, which started on September 21 under the aegis of Angami Students’ Union.


Earlier, Asano Zashiimo and Viketuno Hiekha compered the valedictory function. Hallel Singers presented special number. The function will also witnessed band display from Adolescent Girls Club Christ, King Higher Secondary School Kohima and special appearance by Mhalesino Tepa. Vote of thanks was proposed by ASU secretary education Viranu Ltu.


Students of Vineyard School Kohima & Jo Foundation Inclusive School Kohima escorted the players of the grand finale.
