The 210th Bhanu Jayanthi organised by Gorkha Students’ Union, Mokokchung was celebrated at Town hall, Mokokchung on July 13. Bhanu Jayanti is celebrated each year during the birth anniversary of Nepali poet Adikavi Bhanu Bhakta Acharya.
The Nagaland Gorkha Association’s vice-president, BR Subba, graced the occasion as the special guest. During his speech, he reflected on his days as a young member of the Gorkha Students' Union, when the organisation was led by capable leaders and elderly people who are either retired or no more.
He said that Gorkhas are working towards achieving their aspirations for identity, not just in Nagaland but throughout India as well, under the direction of various capable leaders. He also stressed the value of the Napali language and literature in order to preserve their culture and traditions.
The welcome note was pronounced by Prashant Thapa, President, Gorkha Students' Union, Mokokchung. Significance of the day was presented by Chandra Rana while a poem was recited by Ewan Tamang. The programme also witnessed felicitation of Academic achievers in HSLC & HSSLC.
There were two sessions- the formal session was followed by the talent presentation session, where dances and talents presentations on Bhanu Jayanthi were exhibited.
Traditional Nepali dance, Musical performance, Traditional Nepali folk music and dance, and modern dance performance were also witnessed in the celebration.
