The State government of Meghalaya informed on Monday that there are 2192 people of the state, both students and working professionals, stranded in different parts of the country after the 21-day nation-wide lockdown to stop the spread of COVID-19.
Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong informed that the State Cabinet discussed the fate of these citizens.
The Deputy Chief Minister also informed that most of them have expressed their desire to come back to the State.
“Taking into account the safety of people in the State and the safety of the stranded citizens themselves, the Cabinet after a thorough discussion, has decided to request the stranded citizens to refrain from travelling back home until the end of April 2020,” Tynsong.
It may be mentioned that both rail and air services have been suspended and the Centre has also restricted the movement of people from one state to another.
