
Kohima/Dimapur, April 8 (MExN): The Kohima District Legal Services Authority (KDLSA) today took up 67 cases, both pending and pre-litigation, during a National Lok Adalat held at the Kohima District Court premises.
Seven out of the 67 cases were disposed – five pertaining to bank recovery and one pertaining to criminal compoundable case, informed a press release from KDLSA. Among the 67 cases, 65 were bank recovery cases and the remaining two were criminal compoundable cases.
Victo Sema, NJS, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kohima & Secretary, KDLSA was the presiding Officer and Thejapfutuo Khezhie, Panel Lawyer and Nancy Lotha, Panel Lawyer, KDLSA were the conciliators.
Before the proceedings, Sema delivered the keynote address where he highlighted to the participants and beneficiaries the advantages and benefits of Lok Adalat. He said that it was a platform where one can come and settle their disputes or litigation easily and without spending any money.
In Dimapur, 15 cases were settled with a total settlement amount of Rs. 7,12,220/- during a Lok Adalat conducted by the Dimapur District Legal Services Authority (DDLSA) as part of its Common Action Plan and according to the directives issued by the National Legal Services Authority (NLSA). The Lok Adalat dealt with banks recovery and compoundable cases.
Ajongba Imchen, the Chief Judicial Magistrate, who is also the Secretary of DDLSA officiated the National Lok Adalat at Dimapur District Court premises. In his brief address, he spoke on the importance of Lok Adalat as an alternative dispute resolution. Settlement of large number of cases, Imchen said, has helped in reducing the pendency of cases, besides benefitting the clients. Lok Adalat has created an opportunity for the common people to get speedy and inexpensive justice, he added.
The DDLSA in a press release extended appreciation to the banks, conciliators, lawyers and general public for participating in the Lok Adalat. Meanwhile, the general public have been encouraged to avail the opportunity to bring forward any matters for settlement at the Lok Adalat.
