22.57% increase in freight loading in NFR zone

Guwahati, October 9, (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has been continuously registering growth in freight loading and unloading by operating round the clock. The freight trains are carrying commodities which are essential and non-essential to fulfill the demand of consumables and other inputs, NFR Chief Public Relations Officer Sabyasachi De stated on Sunday.

According to a press release issued by the CPRO, during the current financial year up to September, 5.88 million tonnes of commodities have been loaded compared to 4.82 million tonnes in the same period the previous year. 

Similarly, 16.56 million tonnes of commodities have been unloaded up to September of the current financial year compared to 13.49 million tonnes in the same period last year. Collectively loading and unloading in NFR increased by 22.44 million tonnes as compared to 18.31 million tonnes in the same period of the previous year. This is an increase of 22.57% in comparison to the corresponding period of the previous year, the release stated.

Meanwhile, it said that the NFR is exploring all possible ways to boost the freight loading and unloading performance. Freight transportation by rail is safer and quicker than roadways and is the most environment friendly mode available for customers, it added.
