
DIMAPUR, MAY 9 (MExN): In a shocking incident, a 25-year old woman was killed after she was fatally shot by a person alleged to be her boyfriend on May 8 evening at Zeliangrong colony, Dobhinala, Dimapur. The police identified the suspect as one Thingiu Khiam, aged 36 years and reportedly a Dy. Kilonser of Khango group.
According to a statement issued by the Dy. Commissioner of Police (Crime)/ PRO Dimapur Police, the victim who was identified as Supou P, an MA final year student of Unity College, Dimapur succumbed to gunshot wound at Faith Hospital. Police said the victim was brought to the hospital by the suspected accused.
In this connection, the police arrested the suspect along with his bodyguard one Mongchon Khiam (37 yrs) and recovered from their possession- one modified AK rifle with two magazines and 55 live rounds; one country made .32 pistol with one empty case, two sets of walkie-talkie and a soft top Gypsy vehicle (white) bearing regd no NL 07C-1639.
A case has been registered under relevant section of the law is investigation is ongoing, the police stated.
NSF, KSU condemns
Meanwhile, the Naga Students’ Federation and Khiamniungan Students’ Union (KSU) Noklak on Tuesday condemned the ‘heinous crime’ where in a college student was shot dead allegedly by one Thinghiu Shiu/Khiam of Thang Village, Noklak on May 8 in Dimapur.
The NSF said “such inhumane and diabolical act negates the very aspiration of the general populace for peaceful living and ought to be out rightly condemned by all right thinking citizens.”
The KSU said “such barbaric action is not acceptable in this civilized world and such crime should be condemned by all Naga society.”
They demanded that befitting punishment as per relevant section of the law is accorded to the accused and that he should not be bailed under any circumstances. Meanwhile, the NSF and KSU have conveyed condolences to the bereaved family, friends of the deceased.
