2.6 lakh children to be administered polio drops

Kohima, February 25(MExN): The state’s department of health & family welfare is gearing up to administer polio drops to over 2.6 lakh eligible children (0-5 years) at the 2nd round of Intensive Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) programme across the state on February 27. The polio drops will be administered in 2,604 polio booths to be manned by 10, 416 vaccinators and 521 supervisors along with vaccines and other logistics.
“Let us together make our children’s future free of polio,” said Dr. T.L. Nakhro, principal director, department of health & family welfare. IPPI is nation’s contribution to the global effort of eradicating polio disease from the world. Due to the active participation of all concerned, the state has had no case of polio since 1997, which is indeed an achievement to be proud of. However, “we cannot effort to remain complacent till every corner of the country, in the world, is declared free of polio.”
In this connection, while thanking everyone for the past cooperation, all sections of the people, agencies (Govt. and Non-Govt. including the security forces and police), organizations, and especially community leaders and parents of children below 5 years have been requested to come forward and ensure that all eligible receive the “two drops of life” (polio drops) on February 27.
For any further information or clarification, contact nearest health centre or the Chief Medical Officer/District Immunization Officer of the respective district. Meanwhile, Dr. L. Ralte, Chief Medical Officer, Kohima requested all parents, community leaders, women representative, youth representative and church leaders of all villages and colonies under Kohima district to mobilize children to avail polio vaccine at the nearest polio booth in the state capital.
