26th Loyem Memorial Trophy

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 19 (MExN): Strangers’ United Trounce Laiket Lembou Seadogs 8-0 while Vetao Aye wins 2-0 against Oziepik FC in the ongoing 26th Loyem Memorial Trophy on October 18.  

Strangers’ United’s onslaught against Laiket Lembou Seadogs FC started early in the 11th minute when Beshang the captain scored the opener. They didn’t seem to stop as they continuously barraged with their attacks against the weak defense of the Seadogs FC. Nungsang scored a hattrick, meanwhile Beshang and Bokato scored a brace each; Salungthung also joined the party as the match ended 8-0.  

Earlier, having come close a number of times, forwards Muthiu and Thangpong of Vetao Aye FC ended an eventful first half scoring in the 23rd and 29th minute to come from behind after Oziepik FC scored through Sangtsoi in the 11th minute. Both the team displayed beautiful football enthralling the large crowd present. The win was the second for Vetao Aye FC as they look to seal their spot in the quarter-finals.  

In Wednesday’s matches, Medonatuo hit a pair as Nyenshen FC continued their winning form. He opened his account in the 18th minute of the first game and added another in the 52nd minute.

The match ended 3-0 in favour of Nyenshen FC to end all the hopes of Pisgah United FC making it into the quarter-finals. Kakhevi was the other scorer for the winning team.  

In the second match of the day between Mt. Pongen FC and DEF Tsg, Aketo of DEF Tsg stole the show as he scored a brilliant brace in a nail biting encounter. Ato N of Mt. Pongen FC scored an equaliser to start a fightback. However, a superb shot from Aketo in the 61th minute cemented their team’s place in the quarter-finals.
