27 single-teacher govt. schools in Peren

Dimapur, September 13 (MExN): Believe it or not there are 27 single-teacher government schools under DIS of Peren district, states Mission Director (MD) of SSA Nagaland Angau I Thou in a startling disclosure while speaking at the Education Block Resource Centre (EBRC) inauguration at Tening and Peren. The MD however assured that the government is taking necessary actions to rectify the problem and she expressed her optimism that the government will come up with a solution to the problem of shortage of teachers in government schools. She also asserted that the year 2009 being declared as the year of monitoring & supervision and hoped that it would have a positive impact in bringing a change to the functioning of government schools.

Meanwhile, she also lamented that some ToT are employed in private schools and has directed the DIS of Peren to confirm the information and to put forward the report relating to the matter. It has been stated in a press note here that the MD was concerned at the absence of boy students in the EBRC inaugural function at Tening and that she questioned the gathering, whether parents send “only girl child to government schools” and called upon the masses to change their outlook and to stop discrimination towards girl child.

She further went on saying that considering the important role played by a mother; the high literacy rate among women is a must so that it brings about quality education and development in the society. She also added that female adult literacy programme will be launched in those districts where female literacy rate is below 50% and that the scheme is expected to be extended to other districts as well in phase wise.

The MD also mentioned that the Central Government is launching Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), a continuation of the SSA for class: IX to XII, under which the students, schools and community are expected to gain maximum benefit in the field of school education, which is comparatively more than the benefits received under the SSA.
