27th NSF general conference begins

Tzurang Valley (Mokokchung), May 30 (MExN): The 27th General Conference of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) kicked off here this evening with Dr. Benjongliba Aier, Parliamentary Secretary for CAWD & Taxes as the special guest.   Aier, who is the local MLA from the area, challenged the Naga students to cooperate, collaborate and support each other towards building partnership based on mutual respect, trust and for building “a strong base for a progressive Naga society.”

The Parliamentary Secretary also called for brotherhood among the Nagas cutting border lines among the Nagas in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur or Myanmar.

“When our brothers and sisters in Assam or in Arunachal Pradesh or in Manipur or in Myanmar are sidelined by majoritarian politics, religion and culture, it should pain us…How can we be in peace when our own brothers and sisters are caught up by such a process of homogenization and assimilation,” said Dr Benjongliba.

In this connection, he reminded that the NSF, since its inception, has played a pivotal role in upholding the unique Naga history and political identity.

“You have ensured that we as Nagas, inspite of being divided by various geographical boundaries, preserve our sense of belongingness. You have tirelessly withstood the test of time and various forms of repression to ensure that our political dream of living as one Naga family is realized,” said Dr Benjongliba.

Meanwhile, the NSF President, Subenthung Kithan hoisted the NSF flag followed by ‘indigenous launching ceremony’. The general conference is being hosted by the Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) on the theme ‘Amelioration’ at Tzurang valley under Mokokchung district.
