27th NWA wrestling c’ship on March 10 and 11

54 senior and 36 under-16 wrestlers to vie for their ultimate title

 

Kohima, March 1 (MExN): The 27th senior and 1st under 16 years wrestling tournament cum 50th years formation of the Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) is all set to be held at Khouchiezie on March 10 and 11 with Chief Minister of Nagaland and President Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) Neiphi-u Rio as the Special guest and MLA Kuzholuzo Nienu as the inaugural guest respectively.


According to an updates from the NWA officials, day 1 will witness senior champion while day 2 will witness under-16 tournament. 54 senior wrestlers, 18 from each 3 constituent units and 36 junior wrestlers 12 from each constituent unit will be vying for the coveted title.


Prominent wrestlers and title holders including Menuosetuo Yiese, Venuzo Dawhuo, Vevohu Swuro, Pfusato Tetseo, Vekutho Soho, Kezhaseluo-o Pienyü, Seyiekhrietuo Yiese, Kekhriezo Nagi, Mhasilhuosie Nagi, Vechita Khesoh, Besuhveto Cümu, Penamhung, Keheirie, Ihilu, Isapsi and many more will be vying for the ultimate title under senior category.


The Champion in the senior category will walk away with cash prize of Rs 3,00,000 along with medal, citation, memento, sash, brooch including Lt. Velahü Puro Memorial Trophy and cash of Rs 30,000.


The second position holder will receive a cash prize of Rs 2,00,000, while the third position holder will also fetch a cash prize of Rs 1,00,000. The fourth position holder will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 80,000 along with medal, citation, sash and brooch respectively. 


All losing quarter finalists will also receive a sum of Rs 20,000 each while the participating wrestlers will be given a sum of Rs 3,000 each.


The champion in the under 16 years category will fetch a cash prize of Rs 50,000, the second position holder will receive Rs 30,000, the third position holder will also walk home with Rs 20,000, while the fourth position holder will fetch a sum of Rs 15,000 respectively along with medal, citation, sash and brooch. 


All participating wrestlers will receive a sum of Rs 2,000 each while a scholarship of Rs 1,000 per month will be provided to all the students of quarter finalists for a period of one year.


Chisazo Dawhuo, senior wrestling coach will be the Chief Referee while Nagaland Wrestling Referee Board will officiate the tournament.


A sum of Rs 10,000 shall be realised from each unit as an entry fee where annual membership fee of Rs 2,000 for 2019-2020 should be submitted to the NWA office by March 9.


Age verification of proof documents for under 16 years wrestlers shall be conducted after the press briefing on March 9 at Local ground. A sum of Rs 10,000 is to be deposited to challenge the decision of Referees and the decision will be made as per the Video Review Rules.


The tournament ground management will be taken care by the Chakhesang Baptist Church, Kohima (CBCK). According to the ground management committee, the tickets are priced at the following rates: Donors- Rs 3,000, Chair (Front Row)- Rs 1,000, Chair (Back Row)- Rs 500 and Gallery- Rs 100.


The management committee has appealed to wrestling lovers to be part of the mega traditional event which is one of the largest people gathering platforms for the Nagas and further appealed the general public to maintain decorum and decency.
