The 28th Edition of T20 Winter Cricket Challenge, themed "Green Cover Drive," organised by Senior Noble Klan commenced today with Dr Chumben Murry, Advisor to Chief Minister gracing the inaugural session as special guest. Assistant Conservator of Forest, Wokha Forest Division Elithung Odyuo was the theme speaker of the event.
Altogether 16 teams including 3 teams from Kohima and one from Dimapur are participating in the event.
Addressing the inaugural, Dr Murry congratulated and appreciated the members of Senior Noble Klan for the noble initiative of organizing the T20 Winter Cricket Challenge which started in the year 1996.
Dwelling on the theme, “Green Cover Drive,” Murry encouraged all the participants and the gathering to contribute to make not only Wokha but the whole of Nagaland green and clean, so that when people visit Nagaland, they will appreciate the cleanliness in the near future.
Murry also conveyed a message from the President of Nagaland Cricket Association, Kechangulie Rio where he mentioned that since 2021; the Cricket Association of Nagaland has been taking keen interest in this tournament and has being supporting the same.
Murry emphasized that cricket in the state of Nagaland has made big strides, while encouraging the participants to take game of cricket seriously and make a profession out of it.
Theme speaker, Elithung Odyuo stressed that environmental degradation is causing lots of problems such as climate issue, soil erosion, pollution and more. He also stated, pollution related health effects has being increasing year by year and day by day which is also because of human activities. Odyuo, meanwhile, urged everyone to join hands in preserving the flora and fauna in Nagaland. He mentioned that it's not only the responsibility of the environmentalist, the conservationist or the forest department but it's the responsibility of every individual to take responsible steps in making a green and cleaner Nagaland.
"The small things we do today will have a big impact in our future and if we work together as a team, I believe we will achieve a better, a cleaner and a greener Wokha and Nagaland," Elithung stated.
At the inaugural match, defending champion Highlanders Cricket Club Dimapur registered their first win by 9 wickets in 9.4 overs in the match with Imperial Cricket Club. Imperials won the toss and opted to bat first. With a contribution of Md. Suhil- 27 runs, skipper Abemo Kikon - 16 and Raj Chetri - 15 runs they set a target of 118 losing 10 wickets in 19.4 overs. To chase the target, Hekito Aye and Jitu of Highlanders came in as the opening pair and scored 40 and 19 respectively. Asif Washimul made the run chase easier by scoring a quick-fire of 49 runs with 5 sixers and 4 boundaries not-out. Asif Washimul was declared the man of the match.
