28th Shirui Lily Cup National Level Football Tournament Kicked underway

UKHRUL | October 15 : “Many Ukhrul young foot-ball enthusiasts are deprived owing to the non-existence of   playfield”, said Somi Zimik, Chief Seurity Commissioner, Railway Protection Force (RPF), North Frontier Railways, Guwahati while addressing at the kicked-off ceremony of the XXIIIth Shirui Lily National Football tournament at Ukhrul Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) ground. The tournament is held in memory of Late Leiyawung Shaiza.  
Somi Zimik, speaking on the occasion as the chief guest expressed unhappiness over the deplorable condition of the existing Ukhrul play field in comparison to the past years when he used to play in the same playground. He conveyed a humble appeal to Ukhrul Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police (SP) who were also the chairman and vice- Chairman of the 28th Shirui Lily Cup National Football Tournament to extent maximum prioritization in improving the Ukhrul playfield and at least turn it to a State level Stadium so as to encourage young talented boys in the district and permitting the Ukhrul District Sports Association (UDSA), as a watchdog to oversee the maintenances.
The chief guest while deliberating the brief back-ground of the world football sport elaborated that the British Army during 1898 brought the game in India as a recreation sports and later Toran Club under Indian Foot-ball Association (IFA) was formed during 1890s and in 1911 Mohan Bagan took over the lead in the game thereafter in 1950, “Indian Golden Era” for the foot-ball sport was declared next to cricket and in metro-cities like Goa, Pune, Punjab football was played at the International stadiums.
The Kicked-off football tournament was organized by UDSA under the aegis of All Manipur foot-ball Association (AMFA) and All India Foot-ball Association (AIFA).
All together 15 teams from within the state and other states are participating in the tournament. The Ukhrul United Foot-Ball Club, (UUFC) the team of the former Indian Soccer icon Somatai Shaiza Vs Yarkhok united Foot-Ball Club(YUFC) played an exhibition match that drew 1-1.
