The 2nd edition of the All Nagaland Open Folk Song and Folk Fusion competition under the theme “Strings of the Past, Melody of the future” is set to take place on December 16 at Khuzama Village under Kohima district.
Announcing this at a press conference at Japfü Hotel in Kohima today, the organisers Kekhrie Krotho, Khuzama Village who is collaborating with TaFMA, informed that this year, the Folk Song and Folk Fusion category will be organised under two sub-categories each, both solo and group.
Sharing the details of the competition, the organisers said that entry to any categories of the competition will be free, subject to first come first serve basis, as part of its initiative to promote cultural events in the State. The competition is free for any groups or individuals of any tribe.
On each of the categories- folk song and folk fusion, the organisers said the participation is limited to 10 competitors only selection with 40 participants in total. In case of entries exceeding 10 in any of the categories, the organisers said, participation will be considered. The time allotted for performing of each item will be a minimum of 3 minutes.
Neilakuonuo Metha, singer and songwriter will be the event icon and also performing during the day of the competition.
Abu Metha, Advisor to Chief Minister who was special guest in the first edition held at Khuzama Village last year, had declared the event to be a yearly event to set the precedence of promoting events rooted to our vibrant cultures and traditions.
The organisers said emerging potential performers will be given opportunity to be groomed by TaFMA. Apart from that, all participants will get certificate of participation.
Indigenous products and delicacies will be available on the day of the event for which interested persons have been asked to contact the given phone numbers.
Prizes for the winners in Solo both folk song and Folk Fusion will be Rs 10,000; Rs 6000 and Rs 3000 for the first three winners and Group Folk song winners in the 1st and 2nd position will recieve a cash prize of Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 each.
The judges for the different categories will be announced later.
Kekhrie Krotho was formed in 2018, under the Presidentship of Zakieleto Tsükrü and Nongosa Sale as vice president with the motive to promote culture and heritage of the state. It also creates awareness on issues of child, gender and initiates charitable work for people in need. The group has 8 members currently.
Khuzama Experience:
Kekhrie Krotho members also informed that they will be initiating a tour to historical and significant places in the village. Under the banner, Khuzama Experience, the Five strategic locations, Hibo's Museum, which houses the largest number of pottery in Nagaland, APJ Abdul Kalam area and others.
Visitors will get to learn about the places through the help of guides who will assist the touring. The Khuzama Experience also begins the same day, December 16 from 10:00 am onwards.
