DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 14 (MExN): The Apukito Area Sports Association kicked off its 2nd Apukito Area Sports Meet on December 13 at Naghuto Old Village, with Er. Picto Shohe, MLA, 32 A/C Atoizu as the Special Guest.
Shohe thanked all the persons who have attended the programme from far and near and the participants. He further spoke on the importance of music, cultural heritage and sports. Then he elaborated the word ‘Mheshomheghi’ (Cultural heritage) saying, literally, in Sumi dialect, ‘Mhesho’ means expensive and ‘mheghi’ means property. During his speech he said that at the present juncture the world is giving important to music, cultural heritage and sports. He encouraged that our culture is our identity, it has reached us through our forefathers and will pass on to the coming generations therefore everyone should preserve it.
The program was chaired by Er Khehoto Chophy, President, AASA. Hito Aye, Pastor, Naghuto New invoked God’s blessings; welcome address was delivered by Ilhozhe Chishi, GB, Naghuto Old; Azatoli Chisho, Youth Leader, Naghuto Old performed a special number, and cultural items were performed by different cultural troops from Naghuto Old Village, Lokobo Village, Mapulu Village and Naghuto New Village.
The sports tournament was declared opened by the Special Guest.
