Kohima, July 16 (MExN): The final day of the 2nd Horsepower Challenge began with the semi finals for the Supercross. Eight riders divided into two groups competed to be in the final slot. Out of the eight, six riders qualified for the final Supercross. It was indeed a very close and exciting race drawing cheers from the crowd. The Autocross had eleven participants in the SUV (4x4), 12 participants for the 1000cc below and another 11 participants in the 1000cc above category.
It may be mentioned that this year there was a lone female participant, Kaholi Zhimomi who managed to find a slot in the final Autocross below 1000cc. The Nagaland Adventure Club (NAC) in its effort to encourage local riders had another round of Supercross where the only seven participants (two wheelers) from the state took part. Out of the seven, only three managed to finish the race as the others developed mechanical problems.
The NAC in collaboration with Gallery Monet also organized a photography competition where 10 professional and amateur photographers participated. Here the first prize was bagged by Chingwang Konyak, 2nd place by Menuolhoulie Kire and 3rd place was taken by Ngore Lotha.
The closing function was graced by Mr. Temjen Toy, Commissioner and Secretary, Roads and Bridges. In his short speech he congratulated the NAC for successfully organizing the 2nd Horsepower Challenge saying that it is not easy to organize such an event. He also said that this kind of event is a time of camaraderie and sportsmanship and brings a rush of adrenaline to everyone. Mr. Temjen Toy also pointed out that the NAC has made Nagaland a ‘destination of events’, and a place that people would want to be in right now. He further congratulated all the winners while also handing out the cash prizes and certificates.
Cash prizes for the event which is sponsored by the state government carries Rs. 35,000, Rs. 25,000 and Rs. 15,000 for the Autocross (1000cc above) respectively, while the below 1000cc category carries Rs. 30,000, Rs.20,000 and Rs. 10,000. Under the special category for the local riders (supercross) the prizes are Rs. 5000, Rs 3000 and Rs 2000 respectively.
