The 2nd Kohima District Futsal Championship 2023 got underway at Niathu Sports, Khikha under the aegis of Kohima District Football Association (KDFA).
Earlier, gracing the inaugural function, Anthony Ngullie, secretary Youth Resources & Sports, Nagaland said that Football has no age.
As long as you are physically fit and know all the basic of football, you can still continue to be a footballer, he said.
He said that Futsal is a new sport that has come to Nagaland some years ago. He said that the real Futsal taste started, probably, two years back.
He called upon the players to maintain discipline and maintain healthy mind to excel.
Futsal championship convenor Seyielhouvi Nagi said that sports has always been a unifying force, transcending boundaries, languages, and cultures, adding that sports bring people together, instil values of discipline, teamwork and perseverance.
“Today, we embark on a journey that celebrates these values and encourages our athletes to shine on the field,” he said.
To the players, he reminded that sportsmanship is not just about excelling on the field “but also about respecting your opponents, abiding by the rules, and displaying the highest level of integrity. “
Let this event be a showcase of not only your athletic prowess but also your sportsmanship, he added.
Earlier, the inaugural function was compered by Medolenuo Ambrocia Loucii while Kelhoulezo Shiiya, Pastor-in-charge Baptist Church Meriema invoked God’s blessings. Mhasizolie Metsie-o presented a special number.
