2nd North east Kung-Fu C’ship 2011

DIMAPUR, JULY 14 (MExN): The 2nd North East Kung-Fu Championship 2011 begun July 13 at the DDSC Stadium, Dimapur. A contingent of around 220 participants, including officials, from Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) showed up for the event. Manipur has the highest number of fighters with 63 competitors, Assam 41, Nagaland 40, BTC 30 and Arunachal Pradesh 25.
Owing to the rains, fights could not be held on the opening day. A mud-spattered DDSC field did not deter the competitors from giving their best when the competition started on Thursday. Spectators also started to trickle in as the tournament progressed and by afternoon, a healthy crowd had swarmed the arena. Spirited displays, particularly from the sub-juniors, had the spectators excitedly egging the fighters on.   
The competition is categorized into sub-junior boys, junior men (15-16 years), youth men (17-18 years) and elite men’s senior (17-34 years); sub-junior girls, junior girls (15-16 years), youth girls junior (17-18 years) and elite women’s senior (17-18 years). Every match is stipulated three rounds each.  Nagaland Shaolin Kung-Fu Federation, an affiliate of North East Kung-Fu Federation is hosting the event. The customary opening ceremony on Wednesday was graced by K. Hokuto Zhimomi, member of the DMC’s advisory board as the chief guest. It will conclude on Friday, July 15.
