DIMAPUR, MARCH 9 (MExN): Nagaland along with the rest of the country will hold the 2nd round of Intensive Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) on March 11, Sunday.
A press release issued by Dr Meguosielie Kire, Director & HoD, Directorate of Health & Family Welfare informed that the department is all geared up to administer polio drops to over 2,27,397 eligible children from 0-5 years throughout the state in 2274 polio booths.
The booths would be manned by 9096 health personnel and 455 supervisors along with vaccines and other logistics. Special focus would be given to migrant population with an aim to prevent importation of polio cases.
India has remained free of wild polio cases since January 2011 and India’s unprecedented progress against polio has led to certification of south east region including India by WHO in March 2014.
However, India remains at high risk of importation till the whole world is free of wild polio virus, the press release stated.
It should be mentioned that the total number of children covered during the 1st round IPPI which was held on January 28 was 2, 19,293.
The department has appealed all sections to come forward and ensure that all eligible children receive the ‘two drops of life’ (polio drops) on March 11.
