A three days International Children's Film Festival, popularly known as The Golden Elephant, organised by the Children's Film Society of India (CFSI) in partnership with Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) is being held from July 27 to 29 at Regional Centre of Excellence for Music and Performing Arts (RCEMPA), Jotsoma from 10:00 am onwards. In her welcome address, Chairman, NBSE, Asano Sekhose said that it is a great opportunity that Children's Film Festival is being organised for the first time in the State. She called upon the students to be receptive in their approach and to learn new things and urged the teachers to involve their students in the various activities that will be held during the festival. She mentioned that this festival will help students to learn more about the art and culture of other people and also to appreciate other cultures. Project Director, Music Task Force, Nagaland, Gugs Chishi pointed out that "Youth is the best time to shed all inhibitions and to learn; if one does not understand, he/she should shrug off the cloak of fear and be bold enough to clarify their doubts." In the Naga society, storytelling being an activity in every household, it comes with a huge package of creative ideas. Such a festival will help the youths to not hesitate and express their identity. The International Children's Film Festival, which is a biennial festival, is an initiative of Dr. Shravan Kumar, CEO, CFSI, and representing him, Supriya Rohit who is leading the team of experts mentioned that this festival will give insight to a child's perspective and their inner creativity. It will also bring about exchange of culture. The CFSI's vision of the festival lies in creating a platform where children can have access to national and international movies from their catalogue, participate in various workshops and indulge in fun learning experience. The festival focuses on creating dialogues, conversations and interactions. During the three days festival, national and international films will be screened and various workshops will be conducted on varied topics such as Overview of film making, Grammar of film making, Expressing your creativity through mobiles, Creative expressions through digital media, Story board competition, Photography workshop and Little Director workshop. The CFSI has a special programme for the children called the Little Director where the children will learn how to creatively write stories and express themselves by making movies. Through this programme, they try to encourage the children to make films on the local folk tales, culture and language. The film can also be submitted for the International Children's Film Festival - The Golden Elephant, November, 2017. Four students each from five schools - Little Flower Higher Secondary School, Northfield, Minister's Hill Higher Secondary School, Fernwood and Alderville have been selected for the Little Director workshop. The programme was followed by a press conference where the prospect and challenges of film making in general and the scenario of film making in Nagaland was discussed. The 20th edition of the International Children's Film Festival will be held at Hyderabad, Telangana, in November, 2017.
