3 Nagas to receive NE unsung heroes award

Three Naga individuals namely Toyi Swuro, Rose Longchar and Menuodilhou Maurice Usou would be receiving the 1st Northeast Unsung Heroes Red Carpet Social Awards for their silent contributions to the society at International Convention Center, Bombay Stock Exchange, Mumbai on November 15.
The trio are among 23 awardees from the eight North eastern states.
Founder of NE Unsung Heroes Red Carpet Social Awards, Rebecca Changkija Sema informed this to The Morung Express on Sunday that altogether 65 nominations were received from the NE states out of which 16 were from Nagaland. The awardees were selected by a team of juries including Dr. Rupam Sharma, Principal Scientist; Ireni Akoijam, Technical Director, National Informatics Center, Government of India; Samudra Gupta Kashyap, journalist/author and Akashaditya Lama, film director/writer and social activist.
Rebecca informed that Governor of Maharashtra, Bhagat Singh Koshyari and Union Minister of State (i/c) Youth Affairs & Sports would grace the occasion as chief guest and guest of honour respectively amidst a host of sports personalities and bollywood actors.
“This social event is to promote the unsung heroes of northeast. The generation has changed and we do not need only government jobs to bring the change in our society. We all have been blessed with unique talents. Let us bring out the best from one another,” she added.
Rose Longchar, an awardee from the state is the first Nagamese film actress to feature in bollywood movie. She started acting in Nagamese films from the year 2003 and has since then acted in Nepali, Assamese and other short films. Her debut act in bollywood was ‘Little Boy.’
Reacting to her being selected for the award, Rose who hails from Dimapur said, “It is a big achievement for me to be listed among the awardees of NE unsung Heroes and I am deeply humbled.” She credited the Nagamese film industry as a “pillar” throughout her journey in the film industry.
Toyi Swuro, another awardee from the state has been selected for the award in recognition of his services in repairing footwears free of cost for poor school children. He has always been fond of shoes and does the repair works in a small room in Phek town.
Talking to The Morung Express, Swuro said “I feel so privileged and humble to receive this wonderful and lifetime achievement award. I believe that God had answer my prayer for all the hard work I had invested in my small shop.”
He thanked Rebecca Changkija Sema, and the team for nominating him.
“I thank my dad for always believing in me. I thank my team The Cobblers "Craft Gallery" specially to Votalu Luruo, warden of Residential Girls Hostel, Phek Town also my business partner who always assists me in times of moral and financial support to carry on with the work,” he conveyed.
Menuodilhou Maurice Usou who has also been selected for the award is from Nerhema village and is one of the highest medal winners both national and internal in the Taekwondo field. He is a Taekwondo Black Blet 4 degree and has won 82 medals at national and international level. He represented India at the World Taekwondo Championship in Bulgaria.
The event is presented by Find Studioz and Student Experience Interstate Living (SIEL) Mumbai in association with UFO (presenting partner BSE) and supported by Mumbai Dabbawalla Association. Mumbai University and IIM Shillong are the institute partners.
