30th Loyem Memorial Trophy: Wins for Son Kük Laang Society & Mevie Fc

On the opening day of the league matches of the ongoing 30th Loyem Memorial Trophy played at Loyem Memorial Astro Turf Ground in Tuensang on 7th November, Son Kük Laang Society, Noksen town and Mevie FC registered wins.

In the first match from Group B, Rili & Heli FC took on Son Kük Laang. With both the teams relying highly on counter attacks, they made the life of defenders hard. After conceding a free kick, Rili & Heli’s goalkeeper parried the shot which fell on the feet of Imlong Chaba of Son Kük Laang who easily tapped in for the first ever goal at the newly constructed ground in the 9th minute.

Sinlo Kent Rengma of Rili & Heli took a long attempt and found the back of the net in the next minute getting the defenders off guard and the score was levelled.

The final score did not depict the quality of the match however, in the 12th minute, Pete of Son Kük Laang further extended the lead to. In the 35th minute, well known player of Nagaland Tingnyek Konyak scored a spectacular goal.

The second half was a battle between extending the lead and equalizing the score with both teams hurling attacks, keeping the spectators on the edge of their seats. However, no damage was done to the scoreboard as the match ended 3-1, Son Kük Laang taking the first win of the tournament.

In the second match from Group A, Auyang FC took on Mevie FC. Players from the both the team found it difficult to set their play in motion and started to attack through long balls. However, defenders were able to clear it from the both the ends.

Longo L of Mevie FC found the net in the 16th minute. Auyang players kept on attacking the other end with occasional defending for the remaining of the first half. 

However, in the second half, Mevie players looked better in passing, finding teammates and were able to control most of the game. They were soon rewarded in the 56th minute when Mungo T extended the lead to 2-0.

Auyang players were not giving up and tried to score but were unable to create the final ball for the forwards.

In the 70th minute, Longo L scored his second and third goal for his team and took the match home 3-0.
