Dimapur, October 8 (MExN): The 31st edition of the Mayangnokcha Awards Presentation Ceremony, organised by the Mayangnokcha Award Trust (MAT), took place at Christian Higher Secondary School (CHSS), Dimapur, celebrating the academic achievements of the top performers in the HSLC (High School Leaving Certificate) examinations conducted by the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE).
As per a DIPR report, seven awards, instituted by the Trust and its partners, were conferred to the meritorious students. The special guest, Cherakung Zeliang, IFS, Regional Passport Officer & Head, North East Region, Ministry of External Affairs, shared his journey as a recipient of the Mayangnokcha Award in 1997. He reflected on the importance of resilience and sacrifice in achieving academic success, emphasising that education plays a vital role in shaping a positive society.
Zeliang spoke about the challenges he faced at the national level after excelling in the state, stressing the need for hard work and perseverance. He encouraged parents to support their children’s ambitions and urged students to remain dedicated to their studies. He concluded by reminding students of the importance of discipline, teamwork, and humility in achieving their goals, leaving the audience inspired with his message of hope and determination.
Earlier, Dr C Furkumzuk, President of MAT in his address emphasised the evolution of MAT from its inception in 1994 when it was the only state-level award recognizing academic excellence, to becoming a prestigious accolade today.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of the seven awards, with Mhachilo Yanthan from Christian Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, being the overall topper and the recipient of three awards, including the prestigious Mayangnokcha Award for Academic Excellence.
The ceremony also featured a special presentation titled The Educationist by DABA Ola, a musical performance by the CHSS Choir, and concluded with a benediction led by Rev Wati Longkumer. The event was presided over by Dr A Sentiyula.
