The 31st Loyem Memorial Trophy, a beacon of football tradition in Nagaland, commenced with an air of excitement and commitment at the Astro Turf Loyem Ground, Tuensang town on October 17. 

MLA and Chairman DPDB Tuensang Imtichoba graced the event as the special guest. He mentioned that in the next DPDB meeting, a visionary decision will be taken to install lights at the venue, paving the way for night matches, a transformative addition to the tournament’s legacy.

Pongsu, President, Chang Wedoshi Setshang (CWS), set the tone with a warm welcome address, emphasizing the tournament’s significance in the region. Kanchan Kumar Kandpal, Superintendent of Police Tuensang, delivered a compelling speech underscoring the broader social responsibilities tied to the event. He addressed the pressing issue of the drug menace in the town, declaring a personal and professional commitment to combat offenders. Imtichoba echoed these sentiments, expressing a shared determination to eradicate such challenges while urging young players to steer clear of harmful addictions.

The Loyem Memorial Trophy, organised by CWS in collaboration with Chang Sports Association (CSA), stands as one of the oldest and most prestigious tournaments in Nagaland. The collaboration between CWS and CSA exemplifies the community spirit fueling the success of the event.

In the opening match, the defending champions, Son Kük Laang FC, exhibited their dominance on the field, overpowering Aumei FC with a resounding 8-1 victory. The defending champions showcased exceptional skill and teamwork, setting a high bar for the contenders.

The second match witnessed a clash between Kuthur FC and DEF Tuensang. DEF Tuensang emerged triumphant with a convincing 4-0 win, demonstrating their tactical prowess and goal-scoring proficiency. The match showcased a blend of strategy and precision as DEF Tuensang secured a solid position in the early stages of the tournament.

As the tournament unfolds under the gleam of the newly planned lights, the dedication of the organizers and the commitment of the special guests promise an unforgettable chapter in the history of Nagaland football.
