33 fresh COVID-19 cases in Nagaland, total rises to 9536

4 new fatalities in Kohima, death toll leaps to 50

Nagaland reported the detection of 33 fresh COVID-19 cases on November 10, taking the state-wide total to 9,536 cases. District-wise, Dimapur reported 18, Kohima-9, Mon- 4, Peren- 1, Mokokchung- 1. 

Overall, 4,082 of the state total have been armed forces/police personnel, 3,306 traced contacts, 1,681 returnees and 467 front-liners. 25 of today’s positive cases were traced contacts (14 in Dimapur, 7 in Kohima, 4 in Mon), 5 returnees and 3 front-liners.  

The number of recoveries reported today was not included in the daily COVID briefing issued by the Principal Secretary, Home, Abhijit Sinha. 

The state however, also reported 82 recoveries today, as posted by the Minister for Health & Family Welfare S Pangnyu Phom via his Twitter handle. 

Greater number of recoveries against daily detection of cases, over the past few days, brought down the number of active cases below the 900 mark, to 886 as on November 10. 

According to Sinha’s briefing, Nagaland has so far registered 8505 recoveries against a cumulative tally of 9536 cases. A huge majority (828) of the active cases were described as ‘asymptomatic,’ 33- mild, 10- moderate on oxygen, 10- severe on oxygen, 2- critical without oxygen and 3- on ventilator. 

It added that, as on November 10, “A total of 64,500 samples have been sent for testing through RT-PCR and results of 63,392 samples have been received. In addition, a total 34,540 samples have been sent for testing on Truenat and results of 34,526 samples have been received. Through Rapid Antigen Test 4,644 samples have been tested.”

Mortality & positivity 

The death toll became 50 today, increasing from the previous day’s tally of 46. As per the daily statistical bulletin issued by the state Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), Health & Family Welfare, 44 were COVID deaths and 6 others “not COVID related.” Three other fatalities (in Dimapur) were under review. 

The 4 new deaths, as posted in the bulletin, were in Kohima, taking the death toll in the state capital to 13. The death toll in Dimapur, Mokokchung, Mon, Tuensang and Wokha remained unchanged at 32, 1, 2, 1 and 1, respectively. 

The bulletin did not specify whether the latest 4 deaths in Kohima were government employees, frontline workers or civilians. 

There was no official confirmation but as per other sources, atleast 3 government employees, who were on active duty in Kohima, have reportedly succumbed to COVID-19 related complications, as on November 9. Repeated attempts to reach out to the Principal Secretary, Home and H&FW officials for comment on this went unanswered. 

While the case count is dipping, there has been no let up in the sample positivity rate. Today’s positivity rate worked out to 9.3 percent of 354 samples tested. For comparison, single-day positivity rate of November 9 was 7 percent of 411 samples tested.
