33 National Highways approved in Nagaland

33 National Highways have been approved and sanctioned by Ministry of Road Transports & Highways (MoRTH) for Nagaland, out of which 11 roads are under NH (NPWD), 13 under NHIDCL and 9 under BRTF (BRO).

Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio conveyed this message of the Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang (Minister in-Charge of National Highways) at the recently concluded assembly session as the later could not made to the session on health grounds.  

Many projects fail to get sanction in time while some becomes a failure due to some factors of “our own creation within the state,” according to Zeliang.

First of all, landowners not allowing even survey and preparation of DPR and somewhere disputes in diversion of alignment by land owners including elected members who differ their opinions from the Technical Teams/Consultants appointed by highest authority regarding alignment, Zeliang stated.

Some projects get delayed due to differences between land owners and contractors thus leading to none compliance of contract agreement.

In this, the of NH (NPWD) has taken corrective measures in order to solve this issue, such as to give a reasonable time to resolve land owners issue and in case if it is not resolved within a certain period the project will be foreclosed.

“And also if the contractor of any packages in a project fails to follow chainage or milestone, the contract agreement will be terminated,” said TR Zeliang.

In his message, Zeliang requested all members on behalf of all the implementing agencies, to cooperate with the implementing agencies “and together improve the road sector in the state which is of utmost important.” Government of the day is trying its best to complete all the sanctioned National Highway projects within the stipulated time (rescheduled with deadline), he added.

Zeliang said that the state is hoping to get more National Highways to be declared, for which a team of Ministers and some officials led by the Chief Minister met the Union Minister and Prime Minister.

With the cooperation of all the elected members, I assure all of you that together we can transform the face of our state within this 5 years term, Zeliang stated in his message.
