33rd Nagaland State Taekwondo Championship begins in Kohima

The 33rd edition of Nagaland State Taekwondo Championship 2023 under the aegis of Nagaland Taekwondo Association (NTA) commenced today at Pele Khezhie’s Indoor Stadium, Kohima.

Altogether, 252 participants from 9 districts (Kohima, Dimapur, Chumoukedima, Wokha, Shamator, Phek, Kiphire, Peren and Tuensang) including Department of youth resources & sports and Nagaland Police taekwondo team joined the meet.

Col. SBB Sharma, commandant 1st Assam Rifles graced the opening ceremony as the special guest.

Later, Col. Sharma along with NTA president Pele Khezhie gave away prize to the winners of some events played on day one.
Earlier, addressing the participants, Col. Sharma maintained that Taekwondo is one of the sports which have gained importance in the international arena.

Since the inception of Taekwondo as one of the medal competition in Olympic Games, Taekwondo has gained so much momentum, he said.

In this, Col. Sharma urged upon whoever have taken up this field (Taekwondo), to endeavour to perform better and represent the state/nation at the international level.

Taekwondo is one of the sport fields, which gives self defense skills to protect oneself and to protect the nation, he added.

NTA president Pele Khezhie was hopeful that the government would support the NTA for construction of a good stadium to take Taekwondo forward in Nagaland.

Meanwhile, the closing function will take place on July 13 at 3:00 PM.

Kethosituo Sekhose, Director, Youth Resources & Sports, Nagaland will be the guest of honour.
