The 33rd Nagaland State Taekwondo Championship 2023 under the aegis of Nagaland Taekwondo Association (NTA) concluded today at Pele Khezhie Indoor Stadium Kohima under the theme “Strike for glory.”

Department of Youth Resources & Sports (DYRS) emerged the team champion title while Kohima District Taekwondo Association stood runner-up.
Team DYRS bagged 26 medals (23 Gold, 2 Silver and 1 Bronze) while Kohima District Taekwondo Association won 29 medals (11 Gold, 7 silver and 11 Bronze).
Phek District Taekwondo Association has been adjudged as the best discipline team.

Gracing the closing ceremony, Nagaland’s Youth Resources & Sports, Director Kethosituo Sekhose lauded the efforts of NTA led by its president Pele Khezhie in bringing many laurels to the state over the last 33 years.
He lauded the state Taekwondo players for bringing good name and fame to the state.
“We hope to see many more medals to come to our state through you (Taekwondo players),” he said.
He was also optimistic that Nagaland would produce Olympian in the field of Taekwondo one day.
The state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio is putting all possible steps to encourage sports in the state, he said.
In this, Sekhose assured that the department of youth resources & sports is committed to promote sports in the state.
Achievement of NTA since 1987
NTA Vice President, Visabiu Peseyie informed that NTA was formed in 1987 and affiliated to DYRS and Nagaland Olympic Association.
Peseyie, who is also the state Taekwondo coach informed that P. Silas secured the first ever gold medal for Nagaland state at the 33rd National Games, 2007 at Guwahati.
Heutingyi Zeliang, represented India and participated in the World Junior Taekwondo Championship in 2018 at Tunisia.
He said that NTA also organized referees clinics, coaches training, black belts exam, coaching camp for participating in the North East, national and international Taekwondo championships.
NTA also assisted in self defence training programme to the girl students in all the districts of Nagaland under Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA).
“With better facility (i.e. latest equipments, separate Taekwondo training halls etc), the players of the state will perform better in the national and international competitions, he added.
The closing function was chaired by Neitho-o Kuotsu, secretary NTA.
Mentionably, 252 participants from 9 districts, 2 departments (Nagaland Police and Department of Youth Resources & Sports) took part in this year’s championship.
