3,400 VVPAT machines arrive in Nagaland

A total of 3,400 Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines have arrived in poll-bound Nagaland, IANS reported on Sunday.  

Chief Electoral Officer Abhijit Sinha said the VVPAT machines will be deployed in all 2,196 polling booths across the state, the report said. It will be the first time these printer-attached voting machines will be used in Nagaland, it added.  

Meanwhile, the CEO also informed that the State would be getting 281 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) as security measures for the forthcoming Assembly Election, according to a DIPR report.  

Out of the 281 companies, 77 companies have already arrived in the State and have been distributed in all the Districts. The remaining 204 companies will be arriving in Nagaland after completion of the polls in Tripura on February 18, the DIPR report added.  

The companies which have arrived are from CRPF, BSF, ITBP, RPF and SSB. A section of the CAPF are being used at Static police check posts for checking of cash, arms, liquors and other illegal items.  

Elections to the 60-member Nagaland Assembly are slated to be held on February 27, and counting of votes will be done on March 3.
