The 34th Leo Club inter-school Table Tennis Tournament began on September 9 at the Lions Centre. The two-day tournament is being organised by the Leo Club of Dimapur, youth wing of the Lion’s Club of Dimapur, with Royal Oak as the title sponsor.  This year, 77 competitors from 13 schools are participating.

Arihant Kala, President of the Leo Club of Dimapur, said that while celebrating the 33 years of successfully organising the tournament, the focus has been on engaging more young people to diversify sporting interests beyond the popular games like football and cricket. He said the club aims to highlight the excitement of table tennis and support emerging talents, as demonstrated by two girls, who competed in a previous edition of the inter-school tournament, went on to play at the inter-district level.

Naina Jain, proprietor of the title sponsor, Royal Oak declared the tournament open.

Jain highlighted the values of discipline, teamwork and resilience nurtured through such competitions, fostering unity in the community. She hoped for more such events in the future and encouraged the participants to remember that taking the first step is halfway to success. Jain also acknowledged the vital role of parents, coaches, and supporters in nurturing sports talents.
